Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Plan B Aesthetics & Skincare

Reverse upper face wrinkles and reduce crows feet

Anti-wrinkle injections, also known as Botox injections, are used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. They involve the injection of a purified form of botulinum toxin into specific muscles, which causes temporary muscle paralysis, helping to smooth out wrinkles and give the skin a more youthful appearance. Visible signs of ageing, such as crows feet, forehead lines, and frown lines between the eyebrows can all be significantly reduced, resulting in a more refreshed and rejuvenated look, after receiving anti-wrinkle injections.

It’s your anti-wrinkle injections consultation that is key in getting you the results you want. During this appointment, Dr Rachel will assess your skin and discuss your concerns with a view to helping you achieve the best outcome. She’ll perform a thorough examination of your facial muscles and wrinkles, to determine the most appropriate treatment areas, as well as take photos, discuss consent, risks and benefits, and talk to you about alternative treatments. This appointment will be an opportunity for you both to make an informed decision about whether anti-wrinkle injections are suitable for you, and whether they should be effective against the wrinkles and fine lines on your face.

Anti-wrinkle injections

Frequently asked questions

Anti-wrinkle injections contain a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin type A. When injected into the skin, they work by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that cause muscle contractions. This prevents the muscles from contracting and creating wrinkles on the skin’s surface. By relaxing the muscles, anti-wrinkle injections can smooth out existing wrinkles and prevent the formation of new ones.

The main purpose of anti-wrinkle injections is to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles, allowing the skin to appear smoother and more youthful.

Some people may feel a slight pinching sensation or a mild stinging feeling at the injection site, while others may hardly feel anything at all. The pain is usually minimal and brief, and most individuals tolerate it well. Dr Rachel can use topical anaesthetic creams to minimise any discomfort during the procedure, but this isn’t usually needed. Overall, although there may be some discomfort associated with anti-wrinkle injections, it is generally well-tolerated and temporary.

When you receive anti-wrinkle injections, you should see some initial differences in your skin after 3 or 4 days, and your peak results should be obvious after 10-14 days.  This is because the injections work by temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for causing wrinkles. As the muscles gradually relax, the skin in the treated area starts to smooth out, reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

On average, the effects of anti-wrinkle injections usually last 3 months. Some people may experience longer-lasting effects, while others may notice the effects wearing off sooner. Regular maintenance treatments are recommended to maintain the desired results.

your journey

1. Your Consultation

During your 30-60 minute consultation for anti-wrinkle injections, Dr Rachel will assess your overall health, the position of your wrinkles, your skin quality and ensure you don’t have resistance to Botulinum toxin. Plus, if your facial lines are static, and not caused by dynamic muscle movement, anti-wrinkle injections may not be the ideal treatment for you. She will then explain the process of the injections, including the type of product that will be used, how it works to reduce wrinkles, as well as any potential side effects or risks associated with the treatment. Allergies to the product, or a drooping of the eyelid are rare, but she will explain how she will mitigate those risks.

2. Your Treatment

It’s a 30 minute procedure that involves injecting a small amount of botulinum toxin into specific muscles to temporarily paralyse them. By doing so, the muscles are unable to contract, which smooths out the overlying skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Results can be seen within 10-14 days, potentially giving you a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. Any bruising that you experience following the procedure should be gone after 2 weeks. Any immediate redness of the skin should have subsided within a couple of hours.

3. Your Aftercare

Anti-wrinkle treatment requires no downtime. However, Dr Rachel will advise you to refrain from strenuous exercise, or going to the gym, or saunas for the first 24 hours as these activities can increase blood flow to the face and potentially affect the outcome. It is also advisable to avoid consuming alcohol or taking any aspirin immediately after the treatment. Lastly, you’ll be advised to schedule a follow-up appointment on day 14, to give you peace of mind that you’ve received the best possible care and results.
