Frequently asked questions

You can potentially expect reduced teeth grinding within 10-14 days post-treatment. The process takes a little time as Botox gradually affects the targeted muscles. A slimmer jaw should follow as a result.

The results of Botox treatment for teeth grinding or jaw slimming treatment lasts between 3 to 4 months. Regular follow-up treatments should help you maintain muscle relaxation and your desired results for longer.

Some people have a resistance to Botulinum Toxin. This resistance can render the treatment ineffective, as the toxin may not produce the desired muscle-relaxing effects. Additionally, patients with certain medical conditions, allergies, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, may not be ideal candidates for Botox injections. It is essential for anyone considering this treatment to attend their consultation with Dr Rachel beforehand as she can evaluate any specific conditions and determine suitability.

Most people experience only mild discomfort during Botox injections, often described as a slight pinch or sting, which is comparable to other cosmetic injections. Dr Rachel may use a topical anaesthetic to numb the area beforehand, further minimising any pain.

The masseter muscles are responsible for jaw movement.  Botox is a neurotoxin that temporarily paralyses these muscles, reducing their activity and thereby decreasing the frequency and intensity of teeth grinding. As overactivity of the masseter muscles can lead to hypertrophy or enlargement, reducing that activity can lead to a more slender jawline.
