Plan B Aesthetics & Skincare
Harness your skin’s own cell repair capabilities to combat signs of ageing

Microneedling involves using small, thin needles to create tiny puncture wounds on the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural healing process, promoting the production of collagen and elastin, which are essential for healthy and youthful-looking skin. This procedure can help with a variety of skin concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin texture. By stimulating collagen production, microneedling can improve the overall appearance of the skin, making it smoother, firmer, and more radiant. Then, over time, as the collagen continues to regenerate, the skin will become firmer and more resilient, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
You’ll have a thorough microneedling consultation with Dr Rachel before any treatment can commence. By assessing your skin and discussing your goals and expectations, she can determine not just your suitability, but also whether it’s the right treatment for you. You can ask her any questions you may have, as well as raise any concerns about the risks or benefits. We want you to be fully informed on the process of microneedling, and alternative options, before you give your consent.

Frequently asked questions
The purpose of microneedling is to stimulate collagen production and improve the overall appearance of the skin. The procedure works by creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin, which triggers the body’s natural healing response. As the skin repairs itself, new collagen fibres are formed, resulting in smoother, firmer skin. SkinPen is the microneedling device Dr Rachel uses. It can be used to treat various skin concerns, such as acne scars, wrinkles, and stretch marks.
Most people can have microneedling treatment, but Rachel will not perform the treatment on skin that has active acne or skin lesions. It’s also worth bearing in mind that patients with deep static wrinkles, or deep acne scars, may see less improvement, but repeated courses of treatment, working alongside complementary skin products should provide you with a good outcome. It’s not suitable for patients with bleeding disorders, or those that are prone to abnormal, or keloid scarring, as well as pregnant patients, patients with weakened immune systems, or patients taking oral Vitamin
Although the idea of needles may sound painful, most individuals who undergo this procedure report minimal pain or discomfort. Prior to the treatment, a topical numbing cream can be applied to the skin to help minimise any potential pain. However, this usually isn’t needed. The needles used in microneedling are very fine and designed to cause minimal trauma to the skin, further reducing any discomfort.
Patients may start noticing a difference in their skin texture and tone within a few days to a week after the treatment. The treated skin should then continue to improve over the next 2-3 weeks. The collagen stimulation triggered by microneedling takes time to produce visible results, so it’s important to be patient. Most patients will see significant improvements in their skin’s appearance after a series of 3-6 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart. The full results of microneedling can continue to develop over several months as the skin’s natural healing processes continue. Regular maintenance sessions are recommended to maintain and enhance the results achieved.
Generally, the effects of microneedling can last anywhere from several months to a year or more. The number of microneedling sessions and the specific concerns being addressed can influence how long the effects will last. Dr Rachel will work with you during your initial consultation to determine the best treatment plan and to maximise the longevity of the results.
